Summer 2021 Anime Blog Banner

Okay, I have to admit that my Summer 2021 anime must-watch list is a lot shorter than the last season.

Why is that, you wonder? Is it because there aren’t that many interesting anime to watch?

I probably sound like a broken record here. But I need to say this again and again – there will always be interesting anime to watch in every season.

And yes, that includes last summer where there was barely any anime to watch. I even decided to binge-watch Ascendance of a Bookworm anime since I only had one anime to watch for that season.

Well, that makes sense that we barely have any anime to watch due to the pandemic.

But this summer isn’t the same as the last summer. And yet, I only have two anime on the list. It can only mean that most anime for this season aren’t good, right?

To be honest, I can’t say whether most Summer 2021 anime is good or not since it depends on your personal preference.

I’ll go into details on why my anime list is shorter than the last season in a moment. But if you’re looking for a complete list of anime that comes out for this season, you can take a look at this website right here.

For now, let’s take a look at what Summer 2021 anime I’m currently watching right now.

Scarlet Nexus

Scarlet Nexus Anime

Scarlet Nexus is one of the games that I was so looking forward to playing apart from Tales of Arise. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise here that I will add Scarlet Nexus anime to my list.

Let’s be clear that any video game, online or not, that received an anime adaptation will only have a so-so quality.

What I mean by that isn’t so much to do with the animation quality. Rather, it has a lot more to do with how close the anime is to the source material.

And let’s not forget that Bandai Namco has a strange fascination with making the anime adaptation completely different than the source material.

Case in point – God Eater and Tales of Zestiria. God Eater anime was completely different from the story in the game whereas the story in Tales of Zestiria starts to take a different turn halfway through the story.

Since Bandai Namco tends to have such a tendency, does it mean that Scarlet Nexus anime will have the same fate as the rest of the games that have an anime adaptation?

It’s hard for me to say since I have yet to play the game as I write this. But judging from the people who already played the game, it seems that the story in the anime is more or less the same as the source material.

So, should you give this anime a try whether you intend to play the game or not? Well, I would say yes since the story doesn’t seem to have any plot that seems like a red flag to me.

Can’t say for sure if it covers the game’s ending, though. I won’t be surprised if the ending for the anime will be different from the one in the game.

If you find the game interesting and would like to get your hand on the physical copy of the game, you can get the game at Play-Asia:

The game is available for PS4, PS5, and Xbox One.

Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid

Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid

Imagine yourself living in a situation where any living creature that you touch will wither or die. That’s what the main character of Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid where he can’t touch any living being.

And it’s even worst that he can’t touch Alice, the person that he loves and also the maid who works for him.

Just so you know that the main character in Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid doesn’t even have a name.

Well, at least the story doesn’t even reveal anything about his name. People around him never calls him by his name, to begin with.

And let’s not forget that Alice somehow reminded me of Senjougahara from the Monogatari series where Alice likes to tease the main character.

It’s just like how Senjougahara loves to tease Araragi with the exception that Alice tends to tease the main character with her actions a lot more rather than with words.

In a nutshell, I do find the anime interesting to watch. But I can’t say for sure if I will give the manga a try after the anime ends, though.

Whether I will add to my list or not will depend on how the anime ends. I may give the manga a try if I don’t feel satisfied with the way the anime ends.

Just to let you know that the manga isn’t licensed in English yet as I write this.

What’s with the short Summer 2021 anime list?

If you think that the reason why my Summer 2021 anime list is short is that there aren’t that many interesting to watch, then you’re wrong about that.

To be honest, I do find anime like Tantei wa mou, Shindeiru, and Vanitas no Carte seem to have an interesting premise.

Same goes for Sonny Boy, Shiroi Suna no Aquatope, and Meikyuu Black Company. These anime seem promising based on the description.

As much as I’d love to sit down and give these anime a try, I realize that I don’t have time for that considering that I’m in the middle of playing Persona 5 Royal.

If you’ve already played the game before, you know how freaking long the game is.

Heck, I was already clocking 111 hours as I write this. And that was only after I already secured the treasure in the cruiser palace.

I bet that I’ll be clocking around 120-130 hours by the time I reach the end of the game.

Because of how time-intensive the game is, I decided to cut my anime watching to the bare minimum.

Keep in mind that there are still some anime that are continued from the previous seasons. Scarlet Nexus and Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid aren’t the only anime that I’m currently watching right now.

Will my anime list become long like it used to be next season? We’ll see.
