Okay, I admit I’m not your go-to person regarding romance manga recommendations.
Well, it makes sense since I’m a thriller author.
If anything, I’m more likely to recommend mystery, thriller, and suspense manga rather than anything in the romance genre.
Heck, even some of the nonfiction books I read tend to fall in this category too.
One of them is Hell’s Princess, a true story of a woman named Belle Gunness who lured men into her property and killed them.
And then there’s also The Five, a book that dives deeper into Jack the Ripper’s victims.
As much as I’m not into the romance genre that much, I admit there are a handful of them that I enjoy reading.
There’s no reason for me to say no to a good story even if they’re not in a genre I usually read.
The romance manga you should add to your reading list
Which romance manga receives my stamp of approval as someone who isn’t into the romance genre this much?
Well, these are my favorites. And they happen to be the ones I recommended on my blog in the past too.
Hi, I’m a Witch and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion
Imagine when your crush suddenly appears outside your house, asking you to make a love potion for him.
That seems to be the case with our female character here, Rose, who is a witch and in love with a knight named Harij.
While it’s more like a one-sided love for her, it still makes her sad that he wants her to make a love potion.
Will the situation remain as a one-sided love for Rose? Or will Harij begin to see her in a different light after seeing her a few times?
Well, you will have to read it if you want to know what befalls both of them in the end.
Sounds like an interesting premise to you?
You can read more about the manga in this post:
Just to let you know there’s a light novel version as well. What I love about the light novel is that not only you don’t have to wait for how the relationship between Rose and Harij will turn out.
But there’s a sequel to the story too for those who can’t get enough of the story.
I can’t say much about the sequel since I haven’t read it yet. But I will say the light novel is good too especially if you’re a sucker for details.
You can read my thoughts about the light novel in this post here:
Hello, I’m a Witch light novel
Kiss Him, Not Me
Imagine you undergo a drastic weight loss only because your favorite anime character died and now you have four men wanting to date you as a result of your glow-up.
That’s why our female character, Kae Serinuma a chubby girl back then suddenly gets the attention of the four hotties in her school after her weight loss.
What makes the story interesting is that Kae Serinuma is a fujoshi and she has to hide this part of her from them.
The last thing she wants from these men is to think of her as a weirdo only because she’s into anime.
Thankfully, those four who want to date her couldn’t care less about her hobby. If anything, that’s what makes her charming in the first place.
Now that she has four of them who have a keen interest in her, which one she will end up with? There’s no way she ends up with all four of them, right?
For the obvious reason, she does end up with one of them. But you will have to read the manga if you want to know which one she chooses to be in the end.

Peach Heaven
How does it feel like when you have to take your dad’s profession as a famous erotica writer not because you want to?
But you have to take it because he was saddled with debt when he passed away.
That’s the situation Momoko Shina is facing when she has to take over her dad’s job as a famous erotica writer known as George Aihara.
Pressed for the deadline, she ends up taking way too much inspiration from an intimate moment between one of her teachers and Ranmaru, who is a famous supermodel.
Because of that, Ranmaru caught wind of her other identity and made an offer she couldn’t refuse.
Judging from the story, it can feel like this manga must be a spicy manga of some sort.
Well, we have a female character who happens to be an erotica writer. And then we have a famous supermodel who is literally blackmailing her.
That sure does a premise for a spicy manga, doesn’t it?
Despite its semi-racy cover, fret not since the manga doesn’t even have anything spicy in it.
The manga is what you expect from your typical shoujo manga – goofy moments between the two characters with some seriousness thrown in between.

Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku
Imagine you have the same situation as the one in Kiss Him, Not Me manga.
But this time around you don’t have four men eager to date you. And you’re a working adult who doesn’t want anyone in the workplace to know that you’re an otaku at heart.
That’s the sort of situation Narumi is in.
Free from her ex who dumped her when he found out that she was an otaku and is now starting working at her new workplace.
Everything is working well for her until her old childhood friend, Hirotaka, almost blows her cover.
What seems like a mishap on Narumi’s side turns out to be a blessing in disguise when Hirotaka asks her to date him instead.
As you can expect, Narumi agreed to date him. But she still has doubts about their relationship considering that Hirotaka is also an otaku despite being a hottie and capable worker in the office.
Will the relationship ever going to last with the two of them being an otaku?
What makes the story interesting is that the story gives us a glimpse of how two people who happen to be otaku navigate through the relationship.
If you’re looking for a feel-good story, this is also one of them.
Out of many romance manga, I will say this is the one I enjoy the most.

Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku
Is that it?
Yes, I admit the list is rather short since I don’t read this sort of manga that much. But I do plan to read more of them in the future.
So, expect to see more new shoujo manga added to the list in the future.
And if you’re up for a dark story but have romance in it, consider taking a look at my novel, The Diary of Modern Cinderella, on my Payhip store.
