Summer 2023 Anime Blog Banner

Okay, I have to admit that most of the summer 2023 anime that I’m currently watching are mainly from the previous seasons.

Does it mean there aren’t that many new and noteworthy anime to watch this summer?

You can guess that my answer to that question will always be no.

Just like in any season, there will always be many interesting anime to watch.

The only reason why many of them never made it to my list is simply because they’re not the kind of anime that I enjoy watching.

And let’s not forget the time constraint. I just don’t have the time to watch a lot of anime than I used to.

If you’re wondering what other summer 2023 anime comes out this season, you can take a look at the full list right here.

But if you don’t feel like doing all the guesswork, you can take a look at which anime I’m currently watching right now.

A note about my Summer 2023 anime must-watch list

It’s no secret here that anime is how I discover which new manga and light novels to read.

Wondering which manga and light novels made it to my reading list?

Well, you’ll find out about it in this post too.

With that said, let’s take a look at which anime I’m currently watching this season.

Bungou Stray Dogs

Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5

It’s no surprise that this anime is on the list considering that the current season is the continuation of the the previous arc.

To be honest, I thought that we won’t be hearing about the next installment of the story anytime soon.

But color me surprised that we get to see the continuation in a few months.

Since the current season is the continuation of the previous season, I don’t recommend that you jump straight into watching this season right away.

Yup, you will have to watch the anime from the beginning if you want a better understanding of the story.

Of course, another way to catch up with the story is through manga and light novels.

I can’t say for sure how good the light novel is since I’ve never read the light novel before.

But if you’re talking about the manga, all I can say is it’s worth reading. You can read about the manga right here if you’re interested.

Dark Gathering

Dark Gathering

If there’s one thing I have to say about this anime is that it’s similar to The Conjuring but it’s less scary.

What makes the anime similar to The Conjuring is that Eiko keeps the spirits in plushies and put them on display.

I can’t say for sure if the story in the anime is based on a true story or not. But one thing I know for sure is it’s not as scary as The Conjuring.

If you love horror anime and you love something similar to The Conjuring, then this anime is for you.

Now, will I be adding Dark Gathering to my reading list?

Maybe not for the time being. As much as I find the story intriguing, I still find that Another is by far the best horror manga I’ve ever read.

Thinking about getting the manga instead? You can get the manga in the digital or print format right here on Amazon:

Hataraku Maou-sama S2

Hataraku Maou-sama S2

Good to know that you don’t have to wait for years just to see the continuation of the second season. But I won’t find it surprising at all if we have to wait for another year or longer for the third season to come out, though.

That is if we’re going to get one, of course.

Just like any anime that continues from the previous season, this is another anime that you have to watch from the beginning for better understanding.

It’s not the kind of anime that you can jump right away without having to watch the first season.

As always, you can catch up with the story through manga and light novels.

If you find the idea of seeing demons, humans from another world, and angels trying to adapt to life in modern society fascinating, you can give the light novel right here:

Not into the light novel version? You can get the manga version of Hataraku Maou-sama on Amazon as well:

Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen S2

As expected, we get to see the second season of the anime this summer considering that the first season came out about a year ago.

While many anime tends to jump right away where the first season left off, the story in the second season starts with the story when Gojo and Geto were high schoolers.

But don’t worry, the whole season won’t be about Gojo’s past. You’ll get to see the usual characters after a few episodes.

As much as I enjoy watching Jujutsu Kaisen, I’m not sure if I should give the manga a try or not.

I may give this manga a try if the anime adaptation doesn’t do the manga justice which I highly doubt it.

But if you like the anime and would like to give the manga a try, you can buy the manga in digital or print format on Amazon.

Rurouni Kenshin (2023)

Rurouni Kenshin

Okay, can anyone care to enlighten me why we’re getting a Rurouni Kenshin anime remake?

I understand why Urusei Yatsura is getting an anime makeover since Viz Media is re-releasing the omnibus edition of the manga under the original title with a new translation.

The same goes for why we’re getting a new version of the Sorcerous Stabber Orphen anime. It’s for promoting the English version of the light novel.

But the Rurouni Kenshin anime remake? Can’t say for sure why we need one other than for the sake of the nostalgic reason.

While I don’t get the reason behind the remake, I don’t oppose the remake either.

It’s not that the previous version of the anime was bad or anything.

My only issue with the old one is that it tends to have many filler episodes and it didn’t adapt the final arc of the story.

Will we get to see the final arc of the story get adapted is something that I’m not sure.

But I do find the anime interesting to watch even though I’ve watched the old version of the anime and read the manga years ago.

Just to let you know that the manga is on my top list. And I even re-read the manga a few times too.

The reason why you don’t see me recommending the manga has a lot to do with the news about the mangaka’s possession of child pornographic materials.

Yes, I’m not kidding about that part.

If the mangaka has a clean streak, I would recommend the manga a long time ago on my blog.

Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid

Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid

Alas, the second season is finally here.

Moreover, the manga gets licensed in English too after a long time.

Will I add the manga to my reading list?

Well, I may consider adding the manga to my list if my curiosity gets the better of me.

This is one of the anime where I find it doesn’t hurt to jump into the second season right away. But I still recommend that you watch the anime from the beginning for better context.

Undead Girl Murder Farce

Undead Girl Murder Farce

I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t find the premise to be fascinating in the beginning considering that we have the story of a nonhuman investigating another nonhuman murder case.

But hey, I’ll take anything even if the story revolves around the murder of a nonhuman.

Does it mean I’ll add Undead Girl Murder Farce to my reading list then?

Well, you bet that I will, for sure.

If you’re like me who is into the mystery, thriller, and suspense genre, you can get the manga right here on Amazon:

Zom 100 – Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto

Zom 100

To be honest, I didn’t find the story to be that interesting at first since I find the zombie apocalypse to be unrealistic.

But what piques my interest in this anime isn’t so much to do with the gore and the dystopian situation these characters are in.

Rather, it’s the message that the anime trying to impart that got me drawn to this anime in the first place.

I can’t say for sure if I will add the manga to my reading list or not. But I will say that I will have a dedicated post about this anime since the story has a message that everyone should hear.

So, stay tuned for my key takeaway from this anime.

In the meantime, you can get the manga right here on Amazon if you find the anime fascinating and want to continue beyond the anime:
