Here’s the odd thing about my summer 2026 anime must-watch list.

I usually am decisive when it comes to which anime I want to watch.

Like most people, I do have my own reservations when it comes to new anime.

If anything, the worst thing that could happen to me was that I’ve wasted half an hour of my life watching an anime that turns out to be a total dud.

Somehow, that doesn’t seem to be the case with the summer 2026 anime, though.

I seem to be on the fence about a few of them, despite having an interesting premise.

Alas, only one made it to the list, though.

Thus, the list that you’re seeing now.

On the surface, it looks like I don’t really watch that many anime this season.

But when you added Honzuki no Gekokujou and LIAR GAME to the list, it’s just the right amount.

Going back to those anime that I don’t watch, will I still watch them some other time?

Unless we have another pandemic where anime production comes to a grinding halt, the chances are pretty close to none.

After all, there are tons of new anime to watch in that current season alone.

I don’t need the anime from the previous season to pad my watch list.

The summer 2026 anime that I’m watching right now

As you can see here, what I’m watching this summer consists of new anime and the anime that continues from the previous season.

Heck, one of them even had the first season come out years ago.

I’ll let you know which one you should watch from the beginning and which one is fine to jump straight into the new season.

Since I tend to discover new manga and light novels to read through anime, I’ll let you know which one I’m excited to read as well.

Now, let’s have a look at which anime I’m currently watching this summer.

All Works Maid

When you think of the role of a saint, their only job is to protect the world from evil.

But that’s certainly not our main character, Melody Wave, here.

First of all, she’s a Japanese girl who is, unbeknownst to her, reincarnated into the otome game.

And not only that, she doesn’t even know that she was the reincarnation of a powerful saint.

The only thing she cares about is doing her job as an all-rounder maid.

Thus, the name all-works maid, where she handles every single chore you can think of.

Anything other than that is none of her concern.

If you’re into the isekai stuff, then this anime is worth giving a try.

But keep in mind that the story can sometimes take a darker turn despite its light-hearted nature, though.

Will I be adding the light novel version to the story?

To be honest, I’m not sure if I want to.

As much as I enjoy watching the anime, it’s not compelling enough for me to get the light novel once the anime is over.

Bungo Stray Dogs Wan! S2

If you’re wondering if it’s the same Bungo Stray Dogs as the usual one, then the answer is yes.

Except that it’s only a short 10-minute anime.

And it’s the comical edition, to say the least.

While it’s fine to watch this anime without watching the first season, the story will only make more sense if you’re familiar with the lore, though.

And that means you will have to watch the actual Bungo Stray Dogs anime or read the manga.

Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi S2

To be honest, I’m not sure if I’m ready for what’s about to come in the second season.

If my hunch is correct, this season will be all about Tokiyuki coming back to reclaim Kamakura.

What awaits Tokiyuki when he finally returns to Kamakura?

Well, you have to find out about it yourself, of course.

That is, if the second season covers until the part where he returns to Kamakura.

For all we know, the second season will end somewhere in the middle of it, not until Tokiyuki is back at Kamakura.

As you can already tell, this isn’t the kind of anime that you can jump straight into without watching the first season.

So, I encourage you to watch the anime from the beginning if you want to understand the story better.

Alternatively, you can also binge-read the manga since the manga already ended some time ago.

Seihantai na Kimi to Boku

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the story in the anime is progressing so much faster than when I read the manga.

What is it that made me feel this way?

Is it because I have to wait every week for the new chapter to release, thus making the story in the anime feel a lot faster?

Or is the anime version somehow skipping some parts of the story in the manga?

Sad to say, it’s hard to say since I read the manga a long time ago.

Seeing how fast the story is progressing, it’s not surprising at all that the second season of the anime will cover the manga ending.

And that’s good news if you’re looking for a romance anime that covers everything within two seasons.

While the story is pretty straightforward, I still recommend that you watch the anime from the beginning if you want to understand the story better.

Tefuda ga Oome no Victoria

Not going to lie, Victoria is hands down the female version of Twilight from SPY x FAMILY.

Yes, I kid you not when I say that.

Like Twilight, Victoria can do everything, including defending herself.

But unlike Twilight, who’s still a spy, Victoria, on the other hand, decided to leave her spy life behind and begin her new life in another nation.

She even adopts Nonna after seeing her abandoned by her own mother.

And then, we have Jeffrey, unbeknownst to him or not, actually try to hit on Victoria.

Doesn’t it feel like SPY x FAMILY in reverse?

Despite the spy theme, the anime somehow reminded me of Akagami no Shirayukihime a lot more than SPY x FAMILY, vibe-wise, though.

Nevertheless, this anime is worth watching if you’re looking for another romance anime to add to your watch list.

Will I ever get the manga or light novel someday?

As much as I enjoy the story, the answer is probably no for the time being.

Youjo Senki S2

I’ll be honest here – I actually forgot what took place in the first season.

Well, it’s hard to recall what happened in the last season when it was years ago.

So, consider yourself warned here not to jump into the second season right away, lest you end up lost with the story just as much as I am.

This isn’t the type of anime you can watch without having to start from the beginning.

Not surprisingly, the story in Youjo Senki somehow resembles the current war we have here, or the war that took place decades ago.

Is it a mere coincidence or not that the second season comes out during the Iran war is heating up is something that I’m not sure of.

But all I can say is this anime is a must-watch if you’re looking for the military-theme anime to watch this season.
